No Bullets, No Shooting

Sept. 9, 2009 TSRA Quick Links > Home Annual Meeting Join Legislative Info Links Services No Bullets, No Shooting from NRA-ILA http://www.multibriefs.com/briefs/nr...Brief-icon.gifAll gun owners are familiar with the 17th century maxim, "Keep your powder dry.” But if we expect to be gun owners in the 21st century, we have to update that to read, “Keep your powder—and all the rest of your ammunition—at all.” That’s because politicians who want to ban guns, but who don’t have the votes in Congress and state legislatures, are trying to achieve the same effect by banning the manufacture, importation, sale and possession of as much ammunition as possible, and severely restricting the rest. More New Concealed Handgun Laws from News West 9 This year's legislative session made several changes regarding concealed handgun licenses. House Bill 2730 and House Bill 2664 concern CHL policies and the authority of DPS to enforce those policies. More In Texas, Police Worried About Losing Gun Permit Notification from the Examiner The Houston Chronicle is reporting that "a small change in concealed handgun laws has created safety concerns among Houston police officers who work the streets." The change is that "the new law removes the penalty for failing to show a police officer a concealed handgun license when stopped by an officer who asks for identification." Before the change, anyone who failed to notify a police officer they had a CHL could lose their license for a year. More Gun Owners Deceived by Obama, as Holder Reveals Gun Attack Plan from The Law Enforcement Examiner As a presidential candidate, Barack Obama deliberately and repeatedly lied to America's 90 million gun owners across the country when he insisted that he would not try to take away anyone's firearms, officials from the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said in a statement released to the National Association of Chiefs of Police. More Dove Season Looks Bountiful from the San Angelo Standard-Times When dove hunting season opened in the north and central zones of the Lone Star State, Texas Parks & Wildlife officials estimated fall dove populations in excess of 40 million birds. “Hunting season opened here Sept. 1, and doves were everywhere for several days giving hunters outstanding opportunities to bag their limit of birds,” said Steven Hoelscher, who owns and operates White Wings Galore Dove Hunts from his farm on Country Club Road, south of town and west of Wall, 10 miles southeast of San Angelo. More Mentors for Young Key to Hunting's Future from the Roanoke Times When it comes to the importance of passing along their tradition, hunters talk a good game. If only we could be as successful with our actions. Proof is in the numbers. If we were more effective at recruiting and retention, hunter numbers wouldn't be sliding as steadily as they have during the past two decades. The drop hasn't been particularly massive from one year to the next. Rather, it's a slow degradation caused by a simple factor: Attrition. More |
Re: No Bullets, No Shooting
My wife wonders why I have a pretty good "stash" of ammo.
Some for shooting, the rest for trading. I have a brand new AR15, that I traded way under retail for, cost basis was less than $400 dollars of 9mm ammo and some magazines. The ammo was purchased over time a few years ago when it was dirt cheap. PMs, Beans, Bullets, and toiletries are the currency of the future. |
Re: No Bullets, No Shooting
It has been a long 10 months of shortages in ammo, powder, and especially primers. Last month I was in OKC and stopped by H&H. They actually had small rifle and small pistol primers. I wasn't thrilled with the price but at least they had them. So I bought 1k of each. They didn't have large pistol standard though which was my biggest shortage. Can't do a lot of shooting with the .45's and .44 Specials without them.
So I was in Claremore yesterday and stopped by Bill's. They actually had large pistol primers. I was so surprised that I bought 1k even though they were nearly twice as expensive as a year or two ago. I told them I was thrilled that they had them but I was hoping prices would start to move down. They said they thought they probably would because "we are getting primers almost every day now." So that's encouraging. If Graf's or Midway ever has shipping stock and decent prices, I may pay the hazmat fee and load up on a ten year supply! Not going to do this again! Gregg |
